Patient ID & Safety

Throughout health care, the failure to correctly identify patients and match that information to an intended clinical intervention continues to result in wrong person, wrong site procedures, medication errors, transfusion errors and diagnostic testing errors. With the technology available today however, misidentification need not be an issue.

Whatever your current processes, Peacock Bros can help you to implement state-of-the-art technologies that help your team to deliver a safer, fail-safe service that reduces risk to the patients in their care, along with the business benefits of saving time and money.

Barcoding Technology

A barcoded wristband can provide two forms of identification in one easy-to-access place by encoding the patient name and identification number.

Barcoded wristbands save administrative time wherever staff need access to an individual’s notes or medicines, ensuring that patients have a solid, accessible identification foundation that their health record can be built around. Additionally, once wristbands are barcoded to provide basic patient identification, other identification, tracking, and data collection applications can be added to take advantage of barcode data entry.

Mobile Printing

Mobile printing supports safer, more efficient processes.

Printing patient-related documents anywhere but at bedside carries an element of risk. Returning to a central location such as a nurse’s station to pick up printed forms, tags or labels can mean returning to bedside with the wrong item, and consequently following the wrong directions for a given patient. And more time spent to-ing and fro-ing to the department printer is less time spent actively caring for patients. With our mobile printing solutions, materials can be printed in full sight of the patient in question, eliminating the dangers of misidentification and saving precious time.

Medication Management

Without mobility, there are many steps in medication administration that are not only time consuming, but also present opportunities for error.

Armed with a mobile computer with barcode scanning capability, nurses can scan the patient wristband, the medication and their own ID card in seconds, ensuring that the right patient receives the right medication, the right dose, by the right route, at the right time.

Next-generation, smart point-of-care equipment is also offering medication management systems. Humanscale’s MedLink cart optimizes clinical workflows and delivers medications and supplies securely. In addition to supporting pharmacy efficiency and compliance, MedLink streamlines point-of-care medication administration and improves the patient experience. It has been expertly designed to reduce human error and supports a closed-loop medication system.
